Words in Context

In the first phase of this project, 5 policy briefs were developed to describe the Lebanese and Canadian contexts on issues of extremism, misogyny and Islamophobia. A novel methodology named Corpus Assisted Critical Discourse Analysis was used to detect patterns and trends of online hate across social media platforms. This project was funded by Global Affairs Canada.

In 2022, an additional policy brief was developed on femicide — the gender-based killings of women and girls. It sheds light on discourses of everyday sexism that can fuel violence towards women in Quebec. This work was funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.
